According to the research, the snow festival has began since 1950, when local high student built six show statues in Odori park, Japan in year 1950. Then the self-defense force joined in and built the very first massive snow sculpture for which the snow festival has become famous until today.

The great event of ice sculpture only hold in winter season. The festival has grown from these little beginning to become one of the biggest and most well known of winter events at Japan. The snow festival is considered to be a festival of international-caliber. Wish one day can visit to Japan can spend some time on the winter events for the holidays.
