  EPF declares 6 percent of decade-high dividend for 2011

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is Malaysia’s premier retirement savings fund that contributed monthly by employees and providing basic financial security for retirement. Recently, EPF board with approval of the Minister of Finance has declared a dividend rate of 6.00 percent, which is also the higher dividend over the last 10 years.

It is slightly increased from year 2010, which is about 5.80 percent. According to the EPF, at 31st December 2011, EPF total investment assets continued to have a healthy growth of 6.52 percent compared to previous year.

  Nokia plans to launch its mobile financial services

Nokia Corporation is the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile telephones. Nokia is intended to revolution the world of banking through its new service called as “Nokia Money”. According to the press release from Nokia, this is new financial service that offering consumers with mobile device access to basic financial services.

The purposes of this service are to simplify the sophisticated way on payment, send money, receive money and manage your money by simply make a voice call or sending a SMS. Through this service, consumers can send money to another person by just using the person’s mobile number; pay merchants for goods and services; pay their utility bills and so on. This service can be accessed 24 hours a days and accessible from any places where there have signals.

Nokia is also building a wide network of “Nokia Money” agents, so that consumers can deposit money in or withdraw cash from their accounts. Significantly, mobile financial services are offer the large market opportunity with long term growth potential because in many countries, mobile phone users (approximately 4 billions) are exceeds bank account usage (approximately 1.6 billion). Users need to pay 25 cents to send money up to $1000 and receiving a payment is free of charge.

  New design ideas for Firefox 4.0

About a week ago, the initial design and the mockups for Firefox 3.7 has been released. Recently, Mozilla has just been released another mockups for the new design of how Firefox 4.0 conceivably might look. The Firefox 4.0 mockups show some similarity to the nearer-term Firefox 3.7 ideas.

This is the second Firefox 4.0 mockup that shows the browser tabs above the address bar. That is the same approach with the Google’s Chrome browser.

Pros for the Tabs on Tops concept.
1. Save vertical space.
2. Efficiency and remove visual complexity.
3. Shorter mouse distance to page controls.

Cons for the Tabs on Tops concept.
1. Breaks consistency and familiarity.
2. With the space removed from the title bar your only get the truncated version in the tab.
3. Longer mouse distance to tabs.
4. Lost space.

  Malaysia new design RM50 banknote

Last week 15th July, Bank Negara Malaysia was issuing a new RM50 banknote. This new design of the banknote incorporates various modern and innovative security features that used for deterring counterfeiting.

This new design of RM50 banknote retains the predominant color of green-blue. This new RM50 banknote features Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, at the historic declaration of Malaya’s independence and the logo of the 50th Anniversary of independence on the reverse side.

Bank Negara Malaysia:

“This new design of RM50 banknote is the first denomination of the 4th Series Malaysian currency banknotes, which will we replacing the existing series in stages”

According to the statements from Bank Negara Malaysia, these new design of RM50 banknotes have improved security features like,

1. The color shifting security thread – Which replaces the existing security and is embedded in the paper. The thread appears on the reverse side of the banknote as colored intermittent lines. When held against light, it is seen as continuous dark colored line and the repeated text of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) RM50 can be read. When the banknote is tilted, the color of the thread changes from red to green and vice verse. Under ultra-violet light the repeated text of BNM RM50 will fluoresce yellow and the thread is seen as a continuous fluorescent yellow line when the banknote is viewed from the obverse.

2. The two-colored fluorescent elements – Which is an addition invisible printed feature on the reverse of the banknote. Under ultra-violet light, a complex design two-color numeral 50 will fluoresce.
