Sharp ISO1, the new Android powered smartbook

Sharp together with KDDI au, the Japan’s second largest mobile carrier, has recently announced the new Google Android 1.6 powered smartbook calls ISO1. It is expected to be available in Japan market on this coming June 2010.

ISO1 measures in 83 x 149 x 17.9mm (227 grams). It comes with a 5-inch of touch-screen (960 x 480 pixels) and features Sharp’s “New Mobile ASV” screen display. It is equipped with 5.27 megapixel of camera with auto-focus function, a 0.42 megapixel of front facing camera and there is a full QWERTY keyboard with a 11.2mm key pitch for easy typing.

It has a built-in Snapdragon processor (1GHz), 4GB of internal memory (3GB available for media storage), one-Seg digital TV tuner and supports for Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connectivity, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, infrared, FM transmitter and a 3G CDMA module. It allows Blu-ray recorder connectivity, which allows users to rip Blu-ray movies directly to their ISO1.

There is a mini USB port for data transferring, a microSD/ microSDHC card slot for additional storage capacity up to 16GB. Beside these, the ISO1 has integrated A-GPS and music player that supports various file formats such like AAC, MP3, PCM, WAVE and so on.

The ISO1 has pre-installed “Sekai Camera” social augmented reality application. This application is connected to the built-in digital camera on the device, which allows the real world objects (billboards, buildings, people) to be overlapped by additional information (text, images and sound) that is called as “Air Tag”. The air tag can be added freely by the users¬†within the screen display. For example, the video clip below.


There are two available colors for ISO1, which are blue and black.
