Sharp’s new 5.5 and 10.8-inch Galapagos e-Book Readers

Sharp Corporation is going to launch two models of e-Book Readers in Japan this coming December 2010. At the same time, Sharp will also introduce their Galapagos, which is the new cloud-based network service compatible for their both models of e-Book Readers specifically designed for the Japanese market.

Galapagos will be the e-book bookstore for the readers and the contents will be added from time to time to further enriching the users experience on reading variety choice on e-Book in different categories. This service will launch approximately 30,000 books, magazines, newspaper and this new e-bookstore will provide a free Automatic Scheduled Delivery Service for periodical publications.

Both models of the e-book readers, which are mobile type model that features a 5.5-inch LCD screen with a 1024 x 600 screen resolution that best for reading like a paperback book, whereas the second home type model features a 10.8-inch high-resolution and High-Definition LCD with a 1366 x 800 screen resolution that allows users to read magazines, newspaper with larger screen display as they are reading across a two-page spread format.

The 5.5-inch e-Book reader will available in red and black colors and equipped with a trackball for scrolling through pages. Users can rotate the trackball as they are scrolling a PC mouse and it is possible to flip the page with one hand. The 10.8-inch e-Book reader will available in black color only and without the trackball included.

Both models come with rich graphic capabilities and an easy-to-use interface. Sharp will also keep these both readers up to date from time to time with their periodic software updates. Both of these models support for Wi-Fi 802.11b/g connection and a standard web browser.
