ASUS DR-950 e-reader with large display

On 18th January 2010, Asus had introduced its second e-reader, DR-950. DR-950 was introduced right after its first DR-570 OLED e-reader. The Asus DR-950 was built with different approach, it may not have an OLED screen display like DR-570, but uses a typical gray-scale e-paper display.

Surprise to know that Asus DR-950 e-reader was not built by using e-ink instead of SiPix’s Microcup electronic paper (e-paper) technology, which might be more energy efficient solution.

SiPix e-paper technology are offering some others benefits for the end users such like environmentally robust; highly resistant to impact and pressure; it has image memory so the display content remains after the power has been cut off.

The Asus DR-950 is 9mm thin device weighs in about 370 grams and it has 9-inch of touch-screen (1024 x 768 resolution), displayed in 16 shades of gray. This e-reader is colorless version and the color version believe to be released at the end of the year.

The web browser is support for both portrait and landscape display. It features a text-to-speed ability, which is supporting up to 26 languages; a virtual keyboard for easy typing; RSS reader and supports various file formats include PDF, MP3, ePub, HTML, Jpeg, Png, Bmp, Audile, Txt. The DR-950 comes with 2 ~ 4GB of internal memory, Wi-Fi, HSPA, WiMax connectivity, an USB port, a SD memory card expansion slot and a 3.5mm earphone jack.

According to the sources, Asus-950 e-reader will be released in UK in this coming April. Asus has not set an actual retail price but some news have reported this e-reader will cost about 250 Euros including Value Added Tax (VAT).
