The differents of NoFollow & DoFollow

Most of the time when people talk about the search engine rank; search engine optimization (SEO) and link building, then you will probably heard people mentioning the “nofollow” and “dofollow” attributes that defined along with the link. These are very important terms to understand when you are trying to build a great links back to you website in order to increase your search engine rankings from various search engine such like Google, Yahoo, Msn Live search and so on.

Normal link/ dofollow link:
<a href=””>Link</a> or
<a href=”” rel=”dofollow”>Link</a>

Link with Nofollow:
<a href=”” rel=”nofollow”>Link</a>

“Nofollow” is a HTML attribute attached to hyperlinks by using rel=”nofollow” to ensure that specific link does not being crawled by the search engine’s crawler and those links will not get any credit when search engine rank websites in their search results. It is just a way to make sure that spammers get zero benefit from abusing the public web areas such like blog comments, track backs and referrer lists or even some pay links. This “nofollow” idea was first created by Google in year 2005 to fight with keyword spam, especially at the page that user can simply add the links by themselves.

Whereas “dofollow” attribute is just a way of referring to the links that do not use the “nofollow” attribute, which means these are normal links which pass value and credit to improve search engine ranks. In other words, the attribute “dofollow” or no rel attribute at all means the blog link is good, no attribute in a hyperlink means the link is not “nofollow”, so it has the same effect of a normal backlink. Sometime linking to a useful websites will make your websites and blogs valuable as well. Normally, links at comments are being set as “nofollow” links, so the origin of the term “dofollow” appears when bloggers who believe that comments are useful on discussion and search able by any search engines.
