Swype is a Seattle-based company that providing an innovative text input technology. Swype was previously a self-funded company for the past seven years in developing an easier way to type on a touchscreen keyboard. According to the news dated on 15th December 2009, Swype had secured $5.6 million in Series B financing led by Nokia Growth Partners, Samsung Ventures and returning investor Benaroya Capital. The infusion will be used to further enhance and integrate Swype technology into more mobile handsets and ultimately expand to other touch and remote screen devices.

Swype provides a faster and easier way to input text and it is designed to work on various touchscreen devices such like phones, tablets, game console, kiosks, Televisions, virtual screen, GPS units and so on. It works with one continuous finger or stylus motion across the screen keyboard and enables users to input words faster and easier than other data input methods. It is estimated to input over 40 to 50 words per minute.

Samsung called Swype’s technology as “Genius texting”, because it does not require users to hit each letter accurately while the software intelligent to correct it or allows users to collect it quickly. This is also the key advantage for Swype that is no need to be very accurate while performing very rapid text entry.

Swype allows people to drag their fingertip from letter to letter, instead of typing button by button. The software is intelligently to decide what word you are trying to input based on your finger pauses or changes the direction on the virtual keyboard.

Managing director at Samsung Ventures America is believe that Swype technology playing a leadership role in the evolution of mobile user interface that can be implemented in a variety of ways. At this moment, Swype’s technology has been launched on the Samsung Omnia II smartphone.
