On 30th November 2009, Sony Corporation had announced the commercialization of two LSIs (Large Scale Integrated) circuits/ chips, for use in TransferJet based on the technical specifications established by the TransferJet Consortium. TransferJet is a close proximity wireless transfer technology that featuring simple operation, safe connection and efficient transfer of data in the short range of three centimeters.

The TransferJet’s physical layer transmission rate is about 560MB per second and allows for error corrections and protocol overheads. TransferJet is also capable of selecting the appropriate data transmission rate according to the wireless environment.

TransferJet does not need to have a complex setup for operating. We do not need for an access point instead of touching the two devices together to automatically initiates transfer of files. Downloading a music content can be easily started by touching a mobile phone to a portable audio player. The great advantage of TransferJet is the ability to be used as a universal interface across all the electronics devices that implemented of this technology.

TransferJet does not create any interference by using a separate frequency, keeping the signal within a very short radius and implementing access point-free operation.

According to the source, Sony has been working on TransferJet since year 2005, and recently started producing TransferJet chips that small enough to be integrated into a small electronic device. In year 2009, Sony plans to launch the first TransferJet-based products.

Sony is also making available a reference kit and software development kit for developers and these kits facilitate the implementation of this technology into the products such like mobile phones, digital camera, video recorders, personal computers, hard disk and majority of the electronics devices.

There are certainly a lot of details like that to take into consideration. That?s a great point to bring up. I offer the thoughts above as general inspiration but clearly there are questions like the one you bring up where the most important thing will be working in honest good faith. I don?t know if best practices have emerged around things like that, but I am sure that your job is clearly identified as a fair game.
